LANDING: What connects you with nature?
Lancaster Arts wants to explore this question with you. Please join us as we celebrate the relationships between us and the natural world that surrounds us.
LANDING will be based at the Battery by the promenade in Morecambe’s West End on Friday the 28th to the 30th of June. We would love to have you join us and learn your answer to this question.
LANDING is a co-commission with We Live Here and a collaboration with artists, Henna Asikainen and Breakwater Collective. All of us are looking at different ways of connecting communities with the natural world around us. Together with Tim Harrison, Director of We Live Here, we are looking to build deeper connections between communities and the natural environments around us and working with local, national and international artists.
Henna’s project is called NEST and she will be exploring ideas of belonging through the creation of a human nest in Heysham on June 1st and then again, at LANDING on June 28th and 29th. Find out more about how you can help her build this NEST here.
Breakwater Collective is a collaboration between artists Taey Iohe and Youngsook Choi. They are creating Cockles of my Heart, a guided immersive sound walk on the sands of Morecambe Bay to consider the beautiful but fragile landscapes of the bay that are entangled with colonial histories and human tragedy.
Over two and a half days, LANDING will have lots of free creative activity to enjoy and we will be posting details over the coming weeks. Two further commissions addressing similar themes are taking place as part of the Norfolk and Norwich Festival this spring and LANDING will go to the Freedom Festival in Hull in September.
