Music from the Palm Court

In 1952-53 and 1953-54, the violinist, Tom Jenkins, won the Daily Mail National Radio Award for Most Popular Musical Entertainer. The award was based on a poll conducted in depth across a wide section of the listening public, covering both radio and television entertainers. With an estimated fifteen million listeners in the 1950’s, it was hardly surprising that the star of ‘The Grand Hotel’ Palm Court Orchestra should receive such a formal recognition of his success. It is on this success and popularity, that the PCO returns to its annual Music from the Palm Court concert with wonderful melodies from the conductors large library archive to celebrate the great days of music in the spas and watering places of England! The PCO is the only concert orchestra in between Manchester and Glasgow and the only large Palm Court Orchestra in the country presenting these kind of programmes.

Ernest Tomlinson Centenary Celebration

With saxophone soloists from the Royal Northern College of Music
at The Platform, Morecambe
To celebrate the centenary of the birth of one of UK’s well-known light music composers, Lancashire-born, Ernest Tomlinson, the PCO will be presenting a wide and varied programme of his music styles and melodies. The concert will include his rarely-heard Concerto for Five, which he composed for five saxophones and fuses jazz, blues and light music styles into this exciting and unusual composition. The soloists will be five professional students from the Royal Northern College of Music which both the composer and conductor attended when the Royal Manchester College of Music. There will be other light music compositions to celebrate other composers’ centenaries too.
