Description

Nestled in the heart of Lancaster, the Lancaster Grand Theatre has been a cornerstone of the city’s cultural life since it first opened its doors in 1782. As the third oldest working theatre in the UK outside of London, this Grade II-listed venue offers a rich tapestry of history, artistry, and community spirit. With its stunning 460-seat auditorium, Lancaster Grand is a beloved place where memories are made and live performances come to life.

Steeped in history and surrounded by the charm of its Edwardian design, the Lancaster Grand Theatre continues to serve as a hub for the performing arts, offering a diverse programme of shows throughout the year. From amateur productions by Lancaster Footlights and local amateur dramatic societies to performances by professional touring companies, the theatre provides a stage for both local talent and world-class acts.

Whether you’re here to witness a dazzling musical, an unforgettable drama, or a local community production, Lancaster Grand Theatre invites you to be part of something truly special. It is a place where stories are told, artistry is celebrated, and the community comes together.

Our Mission & Values

The Lancaster Footlights & Grand Theatre Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) operates the theatre, relying solely on fundraising to remain viable. Our income is generated through hosting professional acts, providing a space for local societies, and presenting our own Footlights performances.

Footlights membership offers individuals the opportunity to participate in all areas of theatre production, from acting and directing to technical roles in lighting, sound, set design, and more.

Lancaster Footlights & Grand Theatre CIO is a registered charity number 1198714
