9TH NOVEMBER – 4TH DECEMBER 2021
MURMURATIONS EXHIBITION – 09/11/21 – 4/12/21
by Darren Andrews, Jenny McCabe and Dave Shooter
PHOTOGRAPHS BY DARREN ANDREWS
This installation will feature an exhibition of images by this local photographer, mostly taken during the lockdown as a personal response to the pandemic. The text below explains Darren’s thinking behind his work:
I’m obsessed with murmurations. I even often dream about them. Starlings don’t get the credit they deserve if you ask me. People take them for granted but when they perform en masse just as the sun is setting in Winter they provide a magical display full of drama and danger. It’s not just the sight of the murmuration that I love. It is also the noise. The sound of thousands of birds in a group swooping right over your head is something special.
Most of the photos for the book were taken during the lockdown period. I owe a lot to those fabulous little birds. They kept my spirits up during a difficult period in my life.
Darren’s book, ‘Murmur’ will be launched at Leighton Moss on 23rd October. The book and individual prints will be available to purchase throughout this exhibition.
COMMUNITY ART INSTALLATION BY JENNY MCCABE (PRINTMAKER) AND DAVE SHOOTER (COMPOSER)
Nature became very important to many people during the lockdowns.
Did nature help you through this time?
Did you explore local green spaces?
Did you notice birds in your garden more and hear their songs?
Jenny and Dave are asking us to provide written and spoken responses to the questions above, to capture our experiences of nature during the lockdown and produce an immersive multidisciplinary crowd-sourced art installation of print, words and electronic music.
The launch event will be on Friday 12th November.
