THOSE WERE THE DAYS
Those were the Days began life on the wireless, almost by
accident, but survived almost 40 years in one form or another!
Originally on the Forces Programme, it moved to the Light
programme and then Radio 2, and regularly ran for over 25
years as it played dance music from a huge repertoire, and for
23 years, performed by Harry Davidson and his Orchestra, and
succeeded by Sidney Davey. The PCO will relive a selection
from the original programmes covering the entire genre and
period.

Annual Gathering of the Arts Communities in Lancaster District 2019 @ More Music
Nov 27 @ 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm
Annual Gathering of the Arts Communities in Lancaster District 2019 @ More Music

Annual Gathering of the Arts Communities in Lancaster District

You are invited to join us for the 6th Annual Gathering of the Arts Communities in Lancaster District on Wednesday, November 27th, 6.00pm – 9.00pm at More Music in Morecambe.

In 2013, the Lancaster Arts Partners established 20:20 Vision, a 7-year framework document for arts activity in the area. And every year since we have gathered together the arts communities in our district, from individual practitioners to larger organisations, for an enjoyable, informal evening in which we review the year gone by and look ahead to the year coming. This year, as 2020 approaches, we will be reflecting on the 20:20 Vision document, and considering how best we frame the next vision of arts provision in the District.

The Annual Gathering is a great opportunity to get involved, meet other artists, enjoy a live performance, network with representatives from larger organisations and stakeholder bodies and review (and preview) the arts activities in our fantasticly vibrant and creative district.

Put Nov 27th 6pm-9pm in your diary now and join us!

Please feel free to share this event with anyone involved in the arts locally whom you think may be interested.

IVW also helps people wanting a career in music, off the stage. Giving them a chance to learn their craft up close as well as being a place for local communities to engage with the arts.

She Shanties plus support Paddy Garrigan and the Stroller Priests @ More Music
Feb 8 @ 7:30 pm

Shanties, Chanties; songs of the sea; working songs. She Shanties have been singing these story songs such as ‘Rio Grande’, ‘Roll Alabama’ and ‘Spanish Ladies’ at predominantly white male shanty festivals for 8 years, but shanties are music of black origin. Their roots can be found in Spiritualist music and plantation songs.

Along with carnival and calypso artists Cacophany Arkestra and Mento-B and the Jamiacan Folk Ensemble, She Shanties will collaborate on a series of residencies and performances focused on the Alan Lomax digital recording archive particularly one session recorded in Anguilla with plantation workers in 1962.

Paddy Garrigan and The Stroller Priests:

“Absolutely awesome record, been singing it for days.” – Tom Robinson (BBC6 Music) on ‘Sea Monsters’, played on his BBC6 Introducing and Saturday night show

“Bonkers but amiable three piece from the far north of England take two years plus to produce a debut which has some trouser-bursting brass and lots of chutzpah. Mandolin ska folk psychedelia doesnt even make a halfway decent description. Off the wall and up the alley.” fRoots Magazine
